A Brief History of Reiki
Dr. Maiko Usui was given the gift of Reiki between 1920 and 1921. While in meditation on Mt. Kurama in Japan, Dr. Usui was struck by the Reiki energy and, in a moment of realization,  grasped it's use and application. He opened his first clinic in April, 1921, where he gave treatments and taught Reiki. He put his skills to good use when a devastating earthquake struck Kanto, Japan in 1923.With Reiki, he was able to heal many of the survivors. Dr Usui suffered a fatal stroke in March, 1926. It is stated on his tombstone that he taught Reiki to over 2000 students and initiated 16 to the teacher level.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is Japanese for Universal Life Force. Reiki is a powerful healing energy. This energy comes from the cosmic source, or God. This unlimited energy is used by practitioners to heal themselves and others. It is the same energy that the Chinese call chi, the Indians call prana, and the Hebrews call ru'ach.

Reiki works to help the body heal itself. It is natural healing that will work on any illness.

Gendai Reiki-ho
Gendai Reiki-ho is "Modern Method of Reiki Healing", It was founded by Mr. Hiroshi Doi. Mr. Doi learned the Western method of Reiki in Japan in the 1980's, when it was re-introduced. After attaining Level 3 in the Western methods, Mr. Doi discovered Mr. Usui's original society, the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, and became a member. After learning the traditional Japanese method of Reiki, Mr. Doi combined the essence and focus of Mr. Usui's original teachings from the Gakkai and integrated some of the more applicable Western techniques to form the Gendai Reiki system. In recent years, the Gendai method has become the perfered method of Reiki training in Japan, and many Japanese instructors have taken the Gendai courses.
